Diagram of how solar works in a residential solar solution Solar Panels

Solar panels are typically installed on the roof. These panels are made up of photovoltaic (PV) cells which convert sunlight into direct current (DC) power.

Inverter

An inverter converts the DC power from the solar panels to alternating current (AC) power, which is the standard electrical current that is used in your home.

Electrical Panel

AC power is sent from the inverter to the electrical panel or the breaker box. Now this power can be used in your home.

Utility Meter

Your utility meter measures your system’s electrical production and usage. If you produce more power than you use, the meter literally spins backwards. This excess power provides credits with the utility company that will be applied against your next bill.

Utility Company

Your home remains connected to your local utility company. At times when you need more power than your system is providing, such as at night, your utility company continues to supply you with the electricity your home requires.

Solar System Monitoring

Monitoring allows you to continuously monitor energy production to make sure that your system is running smoothly. If production levels drop below normal, your recieve an alert with info to help remedy the situation.
